UFL Announces New Markets, Coaching Assignments Ahead of 2027 Season
The United Football League is continuing to reshape its future, announcing four new markets over the next two seasons along with new head coaching assignments ahead of the 2027 season.
Rhode Island and Colorado will join the league in 2027, while Utah and Oklahoma are set to begin play in 2028 as the UFL expands to 10 teams.
Rhode Island will play its home games at Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, while Colorado will call Weidner Field in Colorado Springs home. Utah will play at America First Field in Sandy, and Oklahoma will play at the new MAPS 4 Multipurpose Stadium in Oklahoma City.
Along with the new markets, the UFL announced its coaching assignments for Rhode Island and Colorado on Sept. 30.
Former Birmingham Stallions head coach AJ McCarron will take over the new Rhode Island franchise. McCarron, who completed his first season as a UFL head coach in 2026, will make the move alongside the Stallions' 2026 roster.
Rick Neuheisel will lead the league's new Colorado franchise after serving as head coach of the Dallas Renegades in 2026. Neuheisel has previous ties to the state, serving as head coach at the University of Colorado from 1995-98. The Renegades' 2026 roster will move with Neuheisel to Colorado.
Despite the roster moving to Colorado, the Renegades will remain in Dallas. Kevin Sumlin will become the team's head coach, with the 2026 Houston Gamblers roster moving to Dallas for the 2027 season.
The league's newest franchises will soon have identities of their own. Rhode Island's team name, colors, logos and branding will be unveiled Oct. 18 at Centreville Bank Stadium. Colorado's identity will be revealed one week later on Oct. 25 at Weidner Field.
Additional details regarding Utah and Oklahoma, including team identities and launch plans, will be announced closer to their inaugural 2028 season.
The four new markets represent another step in the UFL's effort to expand the reach of professional spring football while building toward a 10-team league in 2028.
